Missing Godsmack and Disturbed is a real downer for me, especially since Disturbed announced that they won't be together after this tour.

Re: Leveraging sales with beta access editorial for StickSkills.com

With the Gears 3 beta details dropping today it was announced that if you pre-order the game you will get access to the beta. I believe if you give the beta as an incentive to pre-order it is more rewarding than making the consumer buy a full retail game for the same access. I would rather spend $5 on a pre-order instead of $65 on a new IP that might only be worth a rental.

Re: Leveraging sales with beta access editorial for StickSkills.com

I think people that buy games specifically for the beta are silly, and treat gaming like a drug addiction because they need their "fix".

I don't mind that a game gives me access to the beta of a similar game, since I then get a taste of the game and I might buy it. However, I won't go out of my way for a beta in this manner, meaning, I'm less apt to give feedback to the developers.

However, if I'm invited to a beta for other reasons, I usually will give detailed feedback to the developers which they might not otherwise receive.

I think developers need to still do a targeted closed beta to select people, and an open beta through attached sales to help the people in the closed beta find more bugs. Having simply an open beta really doesn't do anyone good as instead of reporting bugs, your players are just going to complain when the game doesn't work the way they think they should.

Kyle M.
